Scam Ads Curbed On Internet

Saturday, January 16, 2010

With the large amount of media flowing through the internet, it is almost impossible to police the material that is being posted to websites. Consumers often complain about “scam ads” attempting to scam them for their money.

The ads in question used a similar tactic to lure potential customers in. Advertising a free trial size version of the product that they would like to sell, companies insisted the trial didn’t cost a thing and shipping would usually be cheap, around two dollars. What the scammers always fail to mention is that the trial period is for a certain amount of days, and if the trial product is not returned back in this time period they are instantly a “member” of the products mail out lists.

Once a consumer is a member, they may find exorbitant charges on their credit card made by the scam company. But the thing is that the unknowing customer had no idea about the time allotment, and most of these customers would choose not to be charged for overpriced products that don’t work.

Beginning in the month of November Google stepped up its game and began barring advertisers, instead of advertisements. Before this, one scam company could post ad after ad, the only repercussion being that one particular ad being taken down. Now the website is cracking down on consumer scams and refusing to let companies with a bad track record of customer complaints use the website to advertise.

Ultimately though, it is up to the consumer to become a savvy buyer. It is probably not a good idea to enter credit card information into an anonymous website touting a miracle product. Although many of them have been scammed out of their money, most customers who were stiffed learned a valuable lesson that could be worth more to them in the future than their hair growing serum is now.
