If making an attempt to keep your intellect off smoking, try reading a fiction. This is because they are mind engaging and therefore can simply distract you from contemplating smoking. Avoid any philosophical readings as they will not be able to capture your attention that well. If you’re not much into reading books, then reading a newspaper or mag could also be good option.

Another thing that you can do is to take a hike. Walking facilitates the flow of oxygen in the body and this in turn counters any urge for smoking. If you have decided to go for a walk, ensure that you walk in natural surroundings. The more greenery you have around, better it is for you. The reason for this is that the natural environment with its greenery causes you feel calm and relaxed. It soothes your senses and so your body and mind experience relaxation.

Another effective distracter is playing games like that of crossword. Crossword is a puzzle game and hence to solve it, mind is absolutely engrossed. The game proves very beneficial in binding your attention. More centered you are on the game; more is the possibility that you will forget about smoking a cigarette.

Take a nap. This may be a little tricky to do when you’re craving for cigarettes. However, if you manage to go off to sleep successfully you can be able to go down your craving for cigarettes. Try to read a boring book that may put you off to sleep.

The more you practice correct and deep respiring, less is your urge to smoke.

If you have some money set aside, you may consider shopping, else you’ll consider window shopping. Great way to take your mind off smoking!

Gnaw gum. Chewing gum can help a great amount in curtailing your craving for cigarettes. Go in for the mint flavored ones as they work best for non smokers.

Each of these easy things will ensure that your mind stays focused away from cigarettes and on to other, better activities.
